Tag: oval gold tinsel
Tail: red dyed Golden Pheasant Crest or red Golden Pheasant rump feather
Body: black dubbing picked out; some use black chenille; others use black floss
Rib: oval gold tinsel
Wing: yellow hair of your choosing
Cheeks: Jungle Cock (optional)
Collar: green hen hackle tied long to at least the hook point
Head: red; several coats of head varnish
The Pompier was originated by Michel Beaudin in 1980. Michel is a retired Montreal fireman. Pompier is French for fireman. The fly was unnamed until fly tier Paul LeBlanc gave it a name. The fly has quickly become one of the best known and most widely used flies on the rivers of the Gaspe.
